While on Lucy's trail, Bibi and Jean find themselves as guests of Fabian. They join his Greenhouse supply of toy women in Prague and eventually "hung up," sealed inside rubber skins for his entertainment. They are screwed, literally and figuratively, as Fabian plays host at a gala for his morally vacant and corrupt friends. The future looks black for all of them while Fabian celebrates at their expense.

One of von Stuka's Best

This is BDSM Fantasy at its best. Of course, the story is crazy and so is the pretext of a young woman going off to summer school and ending up as a surgically altered pony. But that is the essence of most of this kind of literature. You either like it or you don't. Some of the characters are really classic villains, such as the head mistress as she sits and observes Dori's torment and training on the mechanical horse, deep in the school's cellar. She puffs a cigar and makes sure that the two invaders on the saddle are well implanted in their warm homes. If such a person existed, she'd be famous and probably in jail. There are some funny scenes, such as when the head of the pig/sow department of the school gets involved in a three or four way with a student and her associates and the phone rings..... The After School novel is equally fun to read. It doesn't include Dori, but evil characters abound, such as the priest who visits a nunnery to play games with the captive young women and the young pilots who get to deliver a prisoner in a terrible storm. This is good escapist material. The writing is fine and the story has lots of twists and turns, but is easy to follow.

I enjoyed this latest entry very much

I enjoyed this latest entry very much! I had almost forgotten about poor little Garrett and was ecstatic to learn that another novel had finally come out. This latest novel finally started to force our young hero to truly take steps toward manhood, and Garrett did not disappoint. The novel starts off with Garrett being his normal unsure self, but quickly pushes him to make decisions that would influence the city of Wythr from the cult of the Worm, to the Vampire Embassy, and change everything. I can't wait for the next novel, and will be eagerly awaiting the sequel! I just pray it doesn't take as long for the next one to be released as it did for this one!
Just a side note (something that made ME happy), this novel is LONGER than its predecessors. Its about two of any of the previous novels. ;) I like seeing the sort of devotion this author has shown, and I HIGHLY recommend this novel, and this series in general.

You will all know what I mean when I say that the Frostwoven Crown sits heavy on the Kings head after you have read this novel.

Maybe the best book in the series

If you're reading this review, you have probably already read the first 3 books of the series, so I won't go too much into the plot/storyline. What I will say is that there are not many authors that can keep a storyline or their characters consistent through 4 books, but Mr. Hunter has done that here. There are still twists and turns, but the protagonist is growing in a logical and realistic way. There is plenty of action, humor, romance, and intrigue (all balanced very well). For a self-published work, the editing is excellent. Every character is unique and speaks with their own voice. I can honestly say this series is in my top 5 of all fantasy that I have read recently or am currently reading. I find it interesting that a book this good only has 8 reviews (so far), when I see a lot of terrible books with 50 or more. Possible spoiler: If you are reading this Mr. Hunter, please don't use the fantasy cliche of having Garrett lose his powers, not that I have any expectation of that happening.

A good guide to get you started making resin toys.

This is a short and basic introduction to sculpting, mold making, and painting a vinyl toy. It is more inspiration than instruction but gives you enough information to get started and let's you work out the rest. The book could have benefitted from just a little more depth on why the author gives you the instructions he does, but that does not detract from the value of the book as-is.

Self-study book? Not really. Extra practice? Definitely.

After finishing the Azar books:

Will you increase your familiarity with grammar concepts? Absolutely. You will be introduced to new structures and you will improve your ability to differentiate between similar structures. You’ll be exposed to many important grammar terms, and you’ll probably increase your own grammatical awareness.

Will your understanding of English grammar improve? Probably. With your increased familiarity, English grammar will begin to become more comfortable. The ample practice exercises will reinforce correct construction, and your ability to reproduce correct grammar structures will improve.

Will your actual grammar improve in “real life?” Possibly, a little bit. There is a good chance that your increased familiarity and understanding will result in more accurate language production in authentic situations. However, reading grammar explanations does not offer a realistic understanding of the true meaning of a grammar function. Similarly, completing out-of-context gap-fill exercises will be unlikely to have a noticeable impact on your spoken and written accuracy.

The bottom line is that the Azar series of books is best used as supplemental practice to a properly staged and scaffolded general English or grammar course. The book is not set up to be a grammar course or a grammar self-study course. Its information is decontextualized, and the lessons are organized by concept rather than in a series of logical and incremental steps. The information in the book does not build on the information that came before, rather each chapter is it’s own beast that must be tamed.

For students wishing to learn grammar from a book, I advise that if there is even the tiniest chance to take an English course or find a tutor, do it. A class will improve the accuracy of your written and spoken English much more efficiently than any book will. If you are a student, and you want a reference book or a set of practice exercises for self-study, this book might be good for you, but the Raymond Murphy book is just as good for that purpose, and it's much cheaper. If you are a student taking an English course, and you are looking for extra practice, this is a good, but expensive option. If you are an ESL teacher (like me) hoping to provide additional practice to your students to compliment your current course book, then the Azar book comes highly recommended. I believe the best use of the Azar books is in-class, and not for self-study.

A note about level: For at least 75% of students, the gray book (Fundamentals) is the better choice. Do not think about the blue book until you are a solid upper-intermediate learner on the cusp of advanced (B2 or similar). The blue book is thorough, but the exceptions, special cases, and rarely-used examples will be unnecessarily confusing. The gray book covers the most common errors made by intermediate students, and will be a good way to review the basics for learners at any level.

I have used several previous versions of this text and have found it very useful in the past. The latest edition is improved in several areas
1. The text examples have been updated to employ 21st century language and the use of modern communication methods (email/ texting vis-a vis letter writing).
2. The illustrations are updated and in color.
3. The inclusion of meaningful oral exercises are peppered in to reinforce the grammar construct being discussed.

I would recommend this to any ESL teacher of adults either as a stand-alone program or the way I use it, to supplement an existing ESL program

Good for Learners and Teachers

Betty Azar is the grammar queen! Her grammar books guide English Language Learners step by step as they learn the English grammar system. The fourth edition of Fundamentals includes a CD for listening and pronunciation practice which makes this edition worth the investment even if you have purchased previous editions. The warm-up exercises, which are not found in previous editions, are a valuable addition. Students attempt to "guess" the correct answer before the grammar point is presented, allowing for some inductive learning. The book includes many exercises to help ELLs grasp the presented grammar point.

About the Author
Albert Schweitzer (1875-1965) won the Nobel Peace Prize in 1952. While still a young man he demonstrated extraordinary abilities in a wide range of pursuits, including science, theology, and music. In 1908 he published his magisterial study of the life and works of Johann Sebastian Bach. He studied medicine from 1905 to 1913 at the University of Strasbourg, then founded a hospital in French Equatorial Africa, where he spent most of the remainder of his life. Schweitzer used his Nobel Prize stipend to expand the hospital and to build a leper colony. His bookThe Quest of the Historical Jesus is also available from Johns Hopkins.

All Tactical Analysis, Little on Opening Theory

International Grand Master and former British Chess Champion James Plaskett has put together a collection of games where the Grand Masters played the Grand Prix Attack against a Sicilian Defense. For those who like to play the Kings Gambit with white, learning the Grand Prix is the perfect compliment for when black answers with c5 (Sicilian) as white still intends to follow e4 with an eventual f4 with this opening.

At the highest levels neither the Kings Gambit nor Grand Prix are overly popular as the consensus among GMs is that with proper preparation black has too many drawing chances. Yet among the rest of us, the Grand Prix offers a vibrant game with plenty of exciting tactical opportunities. Plaskett clearly has a good handle on tactical analysis and he offers plenty of useful feedback on the games. Yet on the whole, the book really is just a collection of games with no real discussion on the purpose of play nor the vision for the opening. For advanced players looking to brush up on how the GMs met certain refutations to the Grand Prix this book offers some value. For those looking to actually learn the opening, this book offers nothing more than a mere glimpse at how its been played as its contains only tactical analysis but no real focus on theory.

About the Author
Henry Pu Yi is more commonly known as “the last emperor.” He lived in Beijing, Manchuria, and Siberia before becoming an ordinary citizen of the People’s Republic of China. He died in 1967.

Paul Kramer (1915–2008) was a naval officer and a secret service agent. He acquired and edited Henry Pu Yi’s autobiography in 1965 after learning about it from Chinese American friends.

A very interesting story, especially if you have an interest in China history. The movie, "The Last Emperor" covers the book pretty well, so if you have just a passing interest in this subject stick with the movie and save yourself the time. But the book is much more detailed (as they usually are) and so provides many interesting side notes not covered in the movie. As to Henry Pu Yi, it is hard to know whether to pity him or despise him more. Certainly both emotions come out when reading the book. He was for the most part a very unpleasant man, totally self-center and uncaring those about him, and seemingly consumed with fear about his own death. He allowed himself to be used by the Japanese to further his own future. But it may be argued that all of this behavior was a result of his upbringing where he was the total center of attention since age 2. Overall a good book and a fairly easy read.

informational book on China's Last Emperor

My interest (in part) was stimulated: Viewing film The Last Emperor
several years ago and travel to China (just returned) with my Family. I was
intrigued by the Title of this Book. Very easy to read. Worth your time
reading if you too are a novice to China's past OR if you are just interested
in reading historical many first/second person accounts. Reading it filled in many
gaps in my understanding of China's Imperial System of governing which became
very turbulent prior WW2. I ENJOYED "The Last Manchu".

Paul Kramer's efforts to bring Pu Yi's words to the West are to be commended; however, by the time we get into Pu Yi's account of his multiple mothers (which would be Chapter Three), the typos begin to confuse the story. Is the woman who caused his biological mother's suicide Than Kang or Tuan Kang? The "h" and "u" switch throughout the chapter making you wonder if there is sixth mother somewhere.

As interesting as some of the accounts are, I have not been able to stay with it beyond the Imperial Palace because Pu Yi's depth of perception is disturbingly short. When his second wife Wen Hsiu asks for a divorce, he records it as an event, but we have no sense of her before that account beyond the fact that she felt some competition being number two when it came to how much she could get in material things. Pu Yi writes he was too worried about regaining his throne to be a good husband to any wife. Granted. But in his account, Wen Hsiu died in 1950 and never remarried. According to Wiki, she lived until 1953 and remarried in 1947, a Major Liu. Although Pu Yi admits he has no idea what happened to her after she left him, he has left those two notes for posterity. Who has the truth? Presumably Wiki, and that tells us how little of Pu Yi's accounts outside of his own circle can be relied upon.

The man had an incredible life, and survived against all odds, so he should be interesting -- but he isn't. This account, approved by the Communists (so perhaps ultimately a propaganda piece), shows someone spoilt and incapable of learning from experience. He appears to feel nothing about his mother's suicide beyond the fact that it got the witchy Than Kang or Tuan Kang off his back. He has nothing but contempt for his father. It is all about "me," but that individual, because it has been closeted from the world, has almost no personality to speak of --only the craft to stay alive, and the ego of a king but none of the wisdom to have ruled as one.

I have given up reading this tome. The events surrounding Pu Yi's entry to emperor and China's evolution from imperial rule to communist may be interesting, but when we have to read pages and pages about Pu Yi himself it is slow-going. Too slow not to pass on.
