Attitude is Critical

This book has helped me in both my personal life and in my teachings to the church in which I pastor. This is not a theological piece filled with the depth of doctrine. It was not written to be that - it is howevever a look at biblical perspective to having a healthy heart - the type God can really use. Don't waste so much energy on the negative and on your past - look to all that Jesus provides for you and the power for you to live a heart-healthy successful life.
I love this book and I love Wayne! He is the real deal and New Hope and more imporatantly his heart to serve the body of Christ is proof of this.

A good fit for both the young and the young at heart

I read this book years ago. The recent purchase was for the student leaders at a Christian school that I serve. They are reading the book with their sponsors/counselors. I am confident that this book will impact the readers.

For your reference, I read about two books a month, and I'm a Christian school principal. I also hold multiple advanced degrees, including Ed.D. All this to simply inform you that I am an avid reader who is familiar with the topic of Christian discipline.

What moral obligation did they have to the thousands of emaciated and ill-treated slave labourers the Nazi's brought among them to build an impregnable ring of defences around the islands?

About the Author
Madeleine Bunting was born in North Yorkshire. After studying history at Corpus Christi College, Cambridge, she won a Knox postgraduate fellowship to study and teach history at Harvard University. She worked for an independent television production company joining the Guardian as a reporter in 1989. She became the newspaper's religious affairs correspondent in 1995.

Captives and Captors at War

The five-year occupation of the Channel Islands by the Nazis during WWII (1940-1945) was "swept under the carpet" both during the war by the (mainland) British authorities and afterwards by the British and the Islanders themselves who were never sure what to make of their islands' behavior. The author has done a very good job putting together information that could not have been easy to uncover as well as interviewing islanders, Germans and former slave laborers (mostly Russian). The Channel Islands are a cluster of semi-independent islands, each with her own island government, situated about 20 miles off the coast of England and 7-12 miles from the coast of France. Guernsey, Jersey and Alderney are the best known. Despite their proximity to France, the islands have always thought of themselves as English and were almost totally dependent on England for food, fuel and manufactured goods. They were also a holiday destination for the English but otherwise not of strategic value in the war (so thought the British). For Hitler, however, occupying the Channel Islands was his first (and only as it turns out) foothold in England. This was to be a "model occupation", and for various reasons, as the book well explains, it was. Basically the British armed forces abandoned the islands when it became clear Hitler was approaching and left the islanders to cope on their own. They coped as best they could with dwindling supplies and under punishing restrictions (no cars, no radios), but after five years there was sometimes a fine line between captives and captor, the latter pretty much abandoned as Hitler started pulling back and ultimately losing the war. The camps and slave laborers were another side as well, and the author has done, I feel, a very good job presenting all the evidence she could find and coerce from both the locals and former slave laborers. This book was written in 1995. No doubt less of the individuals Madeline Bunting interviewed would be alive today. The Model Occupation is a fascinating study in war, politics and human nature.
My interest in the subject was sparked by a British drama series called "Island at War". I think the two together make for a very good insight.

Very interesting, little-known WWII history

I found this book very interesting. I've read many books on WWII, but this is a little known, but very worth knowing, aspect of the war. Shows human nature at it's best and worst.

A most unusual and well-researched work that is entirely "readable". I learned a great deal, and Bunting challenges several previously-held notions about how the German authorities treated workers. The subject matter of the occupation is treated with respect. A welcome addition to my occupation library.

Nice and easy to read

I expected more technical information. This will be useful for a person that is considering to care any pet. I would like pictures , instructions and examples of enclosures. More in depht with scientific facts on feeding and husbandry, vaccines, etc

The author gives his point of view on Kinkajou conduct but it would be wise to warn anyone considering to adopt this kind of pet that it will be very demanding.

They are nocturnal so you will need to stay asleep for a lot of time. They have special nutritional requirements and feeding is not cheap for them. They are messy . And you have to know that they can attack and inflict severe wounds for no special reason.

If you get attacked the worst thing to do is to punish the animal. All the trust that was build in the relationship can be lost for months! And they can take revenge in a very close future. You read right, you can expect the Kinkajou to attack for no reason again. Look up Paris Hilton pet kinkajou and the reason she is no longer taking care for one.
They seem to be very sensitive to odors , unknown odors.
Anyway, if you want one just because they look cute, get a dog.
It is a responsability that will set you back at least 20 years.
As a veterinarian And working with wildlife for more than 25 years I had the opportunity to know them really closer than most people.

I'm not sure when I saw a Kinkajou for the first time as a child. If it was on TV or when my parents took me to the zoo. Whichever the case, I loved them at first sight.

Several years later, I found out that you can keep them as pets, and they are currently becoming increasingly popular. One look at them and you can understand why. Kinkajous, also known as honey bears, are rainforest animals related to the family of raccoons, but not to be confused with ferrets, as they may seem similar.

During my research on the Kinkajous, I came across Jennifer Jones' book, "Keeping A Kinkajou: A Complete Owner's Guide To Caring For Pet Kinkajous" which enlightened me about all the details about keeping and caring for a Kinkajou. I must say, there are very few books that cover this topic and even fewer that do so in such a complete way.

In it, you will find details starting with the legal aspects of keeping exotic animals, to its behavior, space requirements, feeding, medical care, cleaning and toys that can be used to bond with your beautiful exotic pet. Durer 101

Dover has been saving the world from itself for decades. Long before the internet and e-books, it was busy resurrecting books from obscurity, reformatting them as readable, affordable editions of great societal value. Now this “Pictorial Series” of e-book allows us to see the best-ofs of major artists lost in the dusts of time and the megalopolis of new art and artists.

There is no great discovery here, no investigation, interview or controversy. There is a simple, quick biography followed by 94 plates and you’re on your own as to their quality and value. I for one have always been fascinated with woodcuts, a particular form of masochism that has the ability to astound when done well. And there are endless examples of it being done well. Durer’s ability to maintain proportion and perspective, his use of shading and depth, and his scientific appreciation of the human body are all on display here.

A good overview of Durer's woodcuts

Durer was a master of detail in his work, and this book includes almost a hundred of his woodcuts. They provide a good representation of his artistry and attention to detail.

Not surprisingly, given it is an inexpensive Dover edition, there isn't a lot of context, just an introduction and titles. In the electronic version I have the images are fine when viewed at their intended size. The appropriate context for this book is that you are getting a lot for a low price, not that you are getting an exquisite presentation as you might expect from a much more expensive book from a fine art publishing house.

Wonderful, a must for anyone interested in printmaking

As a printmaker I really admire Durer work. This book provides 92 of his fabulous prints - all black and white, of course but wonderful. I cannot get over the artistry in his work - each line is clearly shown, yet blends into the fabric of the print, light, shade and shadow all there with just a line. This book is a must for any printmaker, or anyone who has an interest in print making. This book was provided to me in return for a honest and unbiased review.

Ryuho Okawa, founder Happy Science, Kofuku-no-Kagaku in Japanese, has devoted his life to the exploration of the Truth and ways to happiness. He was born in 1956 in Tokushima, Japan. He graduated from the University of Tokyo. In March 1981, he received his higher calling and awakened to the hidden part of his consciousness, El Cantare. After working a major Tokyo-based trading house and studying international finance at the Graduate Center of the University of New York, he established the Institute in 1986. Since then, he has been designing spiritual workshops for people from all walks of life, from teenagers to business executives. He is known for his wisdom, compassion, and commitment to educating people to think and act in spiritual and religious ways. He has published over 300 books, including The Essence of Buddha, which have sold millions of copies worldwide. He has also produced successful feature length films (including animations) based on his works. The members of the Institute follow the path he teaches, ministering to people who need help by sharing his teachings.

Courage Found

When I encountered an injury that was both physically and emotionally debilitating, I was given this book to read. I had read some of Master Okawa's books before this book with a tinge of skepticism because the topics of his discussions seemed surreal at times.
However, at the time when I first read this book I was searching for anything and everything that I could use to cope with the setback, in addition to medical help. Out of the various things I read, what kept me from running up a huge bill at a shrink's office was this and another book by Ryuho Okawa, Love, Nurture, and Forgive.
In all honesty, his philosophy does not give you an over-night cure to the pain and suffering. It took many weeks and months to see the results of my own mental, emotional, and spiritual progress. But his ideas and his words immediately gave me the courage to face the physical pain and the feeling of failure and despair--pain that strong pain killers could not abate--and his philosophy helped me identify the hidden emotional and mental tendencies that lead to the set of circumstances that provoked and lead to the injury/accident.
Once I was able to recognize the tendencies in my personality that lead to my own demise, I was able to train myself into a more positive direction that lead to an almost miraculous level of recovery (but took a few years, of course) by slowly syncing my own ideas to his philosophies. Now, 6 years later, after trying it out, I know what Okawa writes is truly unique, helpful and life changing. I believe this man truly speaks the Universal Truth that changes the course of one's "defeats" into successes. I recommend this book to anyone else out there who needs to overcome difficulties and to those who seek to enter the path of knowledge, self-reliance, and spiritual emancipation.

Everyone should read "Invincible Thinking"!

What a wonderful, helpful, useful book "Invincible Thinking" is! It will help anyone who lives in this hectic, rough society. If you have any issues in life, you should read it. Even if you don't especially have any big issues, you should read it so you can learn to grow yourself and can help others who have some issues as well.
