Clearly the Oxford Textbook of clinical Hepatology belongs in teavching libraries. Those with liver transplant programs or gastrointestinal or hepatology training require both sets. If only one were to be purchased, my choice would be schiff, it more clearly sets forthb U.S. standards of
practice.

Basic Medical Histology

Kessel's Basic Medical Histology is much more than an overview of the microscopic structure of the human body. Yes, as one should expect, he examines all of the various cell structures, cell types and tissues. The descriptions of the microscopic structure are supported by both diagrams and color photomicrographs. However, the best part of this book is the range of transmission and scanning electron micrographs illustrating the ultrastructure of human cells and cell associations. These figures along with line drawings act as a foundation for the author's discussion of many important physiological processes that occur at the molecular and microscopic levels. This book is a valuable resource for students heading toward a clinical profession and interested in understanding the fundamental physiological activities in the human body.

Excellent text for histology students

This book gives great explanations on the differences between specific types of epithelium. The pictures in this book facilitate learning at an easier level. In this way, I found this book to be a great help in my medical histology class. My study partner and I also used the following which is on amazon:
Histology Study Guide: Key Review Questions and Answers by Patrick Leonardi
This study guide was great because it showed us all the possible kinds of questions that could be asked on our medical histology exams. We both got very high grades with the help of these 2 books. Sometimes simplifying information the way these two book succeed in doing, can even make histology easy to learn.

Why did I continue reading?

K let me just start off saying I have NEVER given a one star rating but I seriously don't know what I just read. There were many times when I thought, "why am I still reading?" "Just put the book down!" "Seriously! Did that seriously just happen?!" "WHY am I still reading this?" (But I'm a glutton for punishment and think it's against the reading Gods to not finish a book).

SPOILER ALERT in my review!

So Liv and Xander hook up at a wedding, hot right?! Well I should have stopped there because it went down hill at an accelerated speed. Liv leaves before he wakes up in the morning and because they didn't exchange names she doesn't hear from him or see him until he is sitting on her parent's couch. Liv is there for her sister's big announcement. What's her announcement? That she is engaged to.... wait for it... Xander! Crazy right? Well he seems like a D-Bag because he is still trying to get in Liv's pants after the announcement THAT HE IS ENGAGED TO HER SISTER and SHE IS LETTING HIM! I don't care how much you fight with your sister, there is NO WAY you would mess around with her fiancé. He says over and over again, it's a business transaction and he is not in love and even though he can't forget Liv he can't break the engagement off. Well smart guy if you can't live without Liv ( or her goodies) break it off with her sister and be with Liv. But no that makes too much sense. It's not even that he was flip-flopping but he was a jerk about it saying Liv was a mistake then a minute later he would turn around and grope her then back to I'm getting married deal with it.

It's just was not a practical book. They spent a lot of time with Liv's siblings and parents and how no one knew Liv and Xander were messing around is beyond me, especially when they are rounding 2nd base at the breakfast table... Really?

If you get this one as a freebie then give it a whirl but don't complain when you think, "what am I reading?!" I'm really disappointed because I have loved other books from this author but this book was not good and I'm smacking my forehead with the time I wasted reading it.

Seeking Mr. Miracle Tongue

Oh my goodness!!! It's no secret that my favorite hero from Ms. Cooper is Zane, but Xander has now dethroned him!! Holy Hotness Batman!!

When I first heard of the premise of this book, I thought it sounds interesting and since Jamie was writing it then I was going to read. I was so wrong because this one is freaking amazing!!

So Alice and Liv are attending the wedding of Alice's ex when Liv sees a very handsome man staring at her. He thinks he is sexy but he has a bit of cockiness about him. However, he overhears a conversation between Alice and Liv and decides that he has to have Liv.

They share a few minutes together at the church (very exciting) and a very hot night together at his hotel room. Liv leaves in the morning before he wakes, it was after all, a one night stand.

The following weekend, Liv goes home and when she gets there, her world is turned upside down. Her one night stand is sitting in her parent's living room! And the reason he's there is not what she would have wanted but things are never what they seem and the roller coaster journey is just getting started.

I loved this book! The chemistry between Liv and Xander leaps off the pages. Several times, Xander leaves Liv so flustered, that I was flustered too. Their banter is captivating and thrilling to read. I really love these two and when I finished the book, I had a huge smile and a warm feeling all over!

Did these authors hypnotize a bunch of 14 year old girls to get the 5 Star Reviews?

I cannot believe this book has so many 5 star reviews. Literally, I'm wondering if they hypnotized all the girls in a big middle school to get them, or what?

What I liked: The cover.

What I didn't like: If you are over the age of consent, DO NOT READ THIS. The hero is an ass whose dialogue is completely unrealistic. The first two chapters of the book involve inner dialogue of the heroine ... or was it two of them?? I'm not sure, because one says she's slept with every guy that breathes, the other is innocent, but THERE ARE NO HEADINGS OR BREAKS with say, Name Labels to let us know whose ditzy little head we're in, so who the heck knows?? The conversation between the heroine and her BFF is annoying, with a giggle every other sentence. Ack.
And then Mr Slut shows up at the heroine's house, engaged to her sister, and tells her its complicated.

Shoot me now if I have to read any more ... oh, wait. I don't.

gorgeous book with four charming stories about a little polar bear, Lars

This is a beautiful, delightfully illustrated book containing four well-written adventure stories in which a little polar bear embarks on a new adventure, makes new friends, and eventually finds his way back home. The book is about adventure, friendship, and family. It's very sweet. The stories are fairly substantive -- just about right to read to a four or five year old. I think they're a little too complicated for younger children. The stories are not written for true beginning readers, but are suitable for 7-8 year olds to read.

The first story is about Lars, a little polar bear, who goes out on a trip with his father, gets lost, and ends up on a tropical island, where he makes friends with a hippo and other island inhabitants. In the second story, Lars climbs onto a cargo ship, ends up in a port city, and befriends a harbor cat who helps him hitch a ride back to the Arctic. In the third story, Lars is again en route to a large city. He befriends a walrus, and the two animals make their way back to the Arctic. In the fourth story, Lars becomes friends with an Arctic hare. The pair finds its way to an Arctic research station and falls into a room full of scientific equipment. They eventually escape the research station and make their way back home.

These stories are interesting, a little offbeat, sweet, and fun to read. I highly recommend this book as a nice addition to your library.

Charming stories about Lars, the little polar bear

"The Adventures of Little Polar Bear" contains four stories about Lars, the little polar bear cub who lives with his parents at the North Pole. Lars is a precocious bear and tends to find himself straying far from home, and going off on adventures, only to find his way home again at the end. This collection contains four tales, i.e. Little Polar Bear [where Lars gets separated from his dad and end up in the tropics], Ahoy There,Little Polar Bear [Lars accidentally gets caught in a fishing net and journeys aboard a trawler], Little Polar Bear Finds a Friend [Lars meets a brown bear cub, Bea, and the two become good friends], and Little Polar Bear and the Brave Little Hare [Lars rescues a young hare, and when Lars ends up in a pickle, it's up to Hugo the hare to help him in turn].

The stories make for great reading aloud, and the full-color illustrations enhance the story. Excellent reading choice for ages 4-8.

The book was in good shape as expected and the stories of Little Polar Bear are cute and help keep our young students interested during our Winter Animals unit.There are some sequencing worksheets online that go along with the story.

About the Author
Steven C. Hause is Senior Scholar in the Humanities and Co-Director of European Studies at Washington University in St. Louis. He was formerly. Professor of History and Fellow in International Studies at the University of Missouri�St. Louis, where he has won the Chancellor�s Award for Excellence in Teaching (1996) and the Pierre Laclede Honors College Teacher of the Year Award (1989). He is the author and co-author of three previous books on the history of the women�s rights movement in modern France, which have won four research prizes: WOMEN�S SUFFRAGE AND SOCIAL POLITICS IN THE FRENCH THIRD REPUBLIC, with Anne R. Kenney (Princeton University Press, 1984); HUBERTINE AUCLERT, THE FRENCH SUFFRAGETTE (Yale University Press, 1987); and FEMINISMS OF THE BELLE EPOQUE, with Jennifer Waelti-Walters (University of Nebraska Press, 1994). His essays have appeared in several journals, including AMERICAN HISTORICAL REVIEW AND FRENCH HISTORICAL STUDIES.

William S. Maltby is Professor of History Emeritus at the University of Missouri at St. Louis, where he continues to teach on a regular basis. Among his publications are: THE BLACK LEGEND IN ENGLAND: THE DEVELOPMENT OF ANTI-SPANISH SENTIMENT, 1558�1660 (Duke University Press, 1971); ALBA: A BIOGRAPHY OF FERNANDO ALVAREZ DE TOLEDO, THIRD DUKE OF ALBA, 1507�1582 (University of California Press, 1983); and articles on various aspects of Early Modern European history. From 1977 to 1997 he also served as Executive Director of the Center for Reformation Research and as editor of several volumes and series of volumes on the history of the Reformation.
