In my first book, Primal Body, Primal Mind, I described how the primal lifestyle can lead to optimal health and longevity. In the seven years since its first publication, that book has reached more people than I could have ever imagined, many of whom have applied its principles and who have written me to say that their health and well-being improved significantly after changing what they eat. Many people asked that I put together a more structured eating plan along with additional information, recipes, and resources for primal eating. Primal Fat Burner does just that. But the book you are about to read isn’t necessarily a weight loss book.

Fat—including saturated fat—is nowhere near the bad guy we used to think it was. Eating fat can make you thin. Primal Fat Burner helps you harness the best dietary practices of our ancestors with the most current scientific understanding of nutrition. With this knowledge you can use quality dietary fat and the rich abundance of critical nutrients contained within it to create total health and well-being.

Nor is it especially controversial. Surprise: the fat-burning ketogenic diet is actually our norm, and it is fundamental to our human design as breathing. It simply means using the energy from fats found in real foods, in the form nature intended them, as your primary source of fuel. When this is explained, what was once mysterious starts to become commonsense.

Over the fifteen or so years that I have followed a primal fat-burning protocol myself, I’ve worked with and counseled a remarkably diverse client population. At one end of the spectrum are those battling significant weight issues or serious ailments, from type 2 diabetes to early onset dementia. Often, the pain of the solutions they’ve been offered by medicine and mainstream nutrition exceeds the pain of the problem, so they come to primal fat burning in order to take things into their own hands. In the middle of the spectrum are women and men approaching middle age, or sometimes advanced age, who look healthy but who have discovered that they have underlying, unhealthy, and elevated blood sugar levels and other troubling blood test markers. They have been following seemingly balanced, carb-friendly ways of eating that have been invisibly ravaging their physiology—even though they still fit into their jeans.

At the far other end of the spectrum is a different crowd: people who are consciously eating what they consider to be a “paleo” diet (yes, I said “consider to be”—more on that later) but who have not gotten the results they are seeking; primal eaters who have drifted slowly from their low-carbohydrate goals and need help (or a swift kick in the pants) to reboot their program and to focus and dial in on their efforts; and elite or endurance athletes who are harnessing the energy from dietary fats to powerfully boost their performance.

If you’ve picked up this book piqued by the idea of becoming a primal fat burner, chances are you fall somewhere on this arc. You might have long struggled with diets that don’t work, or despaired at ever achieving a lean physique. Like me, you might have a deeply personal experience with depression, anxiety, or low energy. Or maybe you are watching others in your family suffer from health issues you know to be genetic, and you want to do anything you can to avoid those diseases yourself. Women and men of all ages simply want to feel better, live longer, and look and feel younger, with a clearer mind and most certainly a leaner and more resilient body that they inhabit proudly. They want to enjoy every day of their lives—whether young, middle-aged, or older—and they resist what is sold to us as the “inevitable” modern-day aging scenario of prescription drugs in their bathroom cabinet. They refuse to sign up for one of the so-called diseases of civilization—diabesity, depression, dementia and brain degeneration, heart disease, cancer. If this is “civilized,” they are saying, they’d rather be primal!
For the Love of Fat
Fat has recently become the darling of the health world. In numerous peer-reviewed studies scientists are exonerating fat for health crimes it didn’t commit. For fifty years, fat was vilified by an aggressive anti-fat campaign, which shunted it out of its rightful place on our plate to make way for excesses of carbohydrates.

While I am glad that fat has finally won some redemption, its acceptance has been a little begrudging and timid. Most experts are all open arms when it comes to fat-rich, plant-based foods. And they’re pretty friendly with fish. They suggest modest little drizzles of this and splashes of this and that—and a quarter of an avocado, if you please.

As for me, please pass the lard. I wrote Primal Fat Burner to the beat of a much louder drum and with the intention of blazing a bolder path. This book is based on the fundamental scientific understanding that all fats, especially fats from healthy animal sources and unrefined tropical oils, are paramount to the functioning of our physiology and to our robust health. These formerly maligned fats must be wholeheartedly reclaimed as vital to our health. Animal-sourced fats provide sustaining energy and absolutely critical fat-soluble nutrients. Shifting to an effective and well-adapted fat-burning metabolism takes between three and six weeks for most people. Once initiated, this fat-burning metabolic state becomes a fairly effortless new norm. I’ll also walk you through exactly what to do if fatigue or discomfort arises during this transition time.

When you are successfully using the energy of fat for fuel, you are in what I call a state of effective ketogenic adaptation (EKA). In this book, we’ll be following a unique approach that combines a state of EKA with high-level nutrition derived from quality food sources and support against stress and toxicity. The effects of primal fat burning are:

Energizing. You benefit from enduring energy that takes you easily from one meal to the next without snacks or cravings.

Protective. Your mitochondria—the cellular powerhouses that supply energy and guard against aging, among other important functions—are protected. The health of your heart and brain is safeguarded, and those organs’ efficiency and function are greatly enhanced.1

Regulating. Your blood sugar and insulin levels are given the conditions to normalize and function more efficiently, as nature intended.2 Excess weight that has been resistant to diets can be regulated, as trapped fat stores get mobilized for energy.3

The subtitle of Primal Fat Burner is spot on, applying the content of this book can literally save your life!

Some years ago in support of my husband’s then high cholesterol, I put my family on a low-fat/low cholesterol diet. I bought a book by the American Heart Association and followed that. Always fairly healthy previously, I begun to have a number of health issues slowly appear from non-stop heart palpitations and hormonal fluctuations to anxiety, depression, and extreme insomnia. My youngest son began to have extreme behavioral issues and problems with self-regulation and then finally, severe depression in 3rd grade. Making a long story short, much of what I learned from Nora’s first book, Primal Body Primal Mind, helped transform my life and that of my son’s. Now, six years later for me, and 5 for my son, our lives continue to be exponentially better and we are no longer on medications (the meds have been gone for years too). In Primal Fat Burner, I especially resonate with the chapter, Think Fat as I am quite certain our brains were inflamed and starved of fat and while my son was healing, I saw a direct correlation with his behavior and the balance of fat and starchy carbohydrates. I was amazed at the effect of increasing butter and decreasing starchy carbs. We were shocked at his regression when he ate gluten (after a good amount of healing, he no longer has such an extreme reaction when he is exposed, but we do not have gluten in our house and he brings a nutrient dense lunch to school). As a nutritional therapy practitioner now (I was inspired to back to school so I could teach this to others!), I really appreciate the chapters, “A Field Guide to Fat-Soluble Nutrients” and “Primal Fat Burning May Help Prevent and Alleviate Disease.” Personally for me, the dietary approach that Nora presents in Primal Fat Burner has helped me maintain a lean body after menopause and also has helped me pretty much avoid all the pesky modern-day menopausal symptoms that are incorrectly referred to as normal. I’m 54 and as of this writing have no aches or pains or no known health problems. I am full of energy and feel much more vibrant than I did when I was younger. I work extremely hard too! Lastly, I want to say what a wonderful, genuine person Nora is. I met her while I was going to nutritional therapy school (NTA) and ever since, she has been nothing but supportive and encouraging. Always giving me a hug, remembering my name, and asking how things are going. She truly cares. You can hear the passion in her voice when she speaks. You can feel her emotion. I read this book front to back in a day. It's that well written, and although I read a lot about primal nutrition, I learned more in this book than all the other books combined. I have been on the plan since I started reading it, and have lost 4 lbs in 4 days and I feel fabulous already. I'm surprised because the book mentions that you'll be tired for the first two to three weeks but I feel better than I did before. I look forward to the progression and process ahead. Thank you Nora for taking so much time to write such an exceptional book, for all of us.

Hi, My diet was all over the food spectrum; heavy on the sugar, sodas, cookies ; you know the usual American diet. This has been my diet for the last 70 years. Not to say that I did not try to eat healthy; I would do well for a while than fall off and on to my old habits. I was blessed with a body that managed to keep me healthy through all this. I read your book in one day. I have your other book primal body primal mind. This recent book took me over the edge. I realized what a truly miraculous body we are given; and with all the abuse we give it our body tries so hard to keep us healthy. With all the other contrarian diets out their; I was becoming confused. Without going in to the usual hair splitting that goes on with this issue.
This book made sense to me that it is never to late to make life style changes and our body reacts with amazing results. No more dizzy walks with my dog, joint pain, head ache. I try not to take pharmaceutical drugs. I am not against them; they have there place; but we are over the top on the use of these meds. We all know what is out there; the good and the bad. Sorting it all out has been a journey that never ends. Your book has shed a bright light on this on going debate. I plan to follow this way of eating. the road a head look healthier. Thank you so much for all your work on this subject that is so important to so many.

I liked this story. I liked the two leads and I found their story to be sweet. The vampire was such a sad and sweet guy, just needing someone to care. I also liked that his human mate was so solid a person. This guy just rolled with the punches and refused to be deterred by anything or afraid of anyone. I would recommend this read.

Started off good, BUT the ENDING LEFT TOO MUCH TO BE DESIRED

It started off so good, that I had thought that it was one of Glenn's best, up until about 75% through, where Samuel is asking why he was being forced into, what his father called his "duty" to the coven, instead of his brother or his father, both of who liked women, where as he did not. What I didn't like about the story: there were things that did not make sense for various reasons, like not being scientifically accurate, which DOES matter unless the author says something to let you know that the actual rules of science do not apply in said case and it wasn't clear to me that she had done such. There were actions of other characters, other than the main ones, that the author made of point of adding to the story as if such actions were important details, but it wasn't obvious as to how said details pushed the story along, (or in other words, it didn't seem to have anything to do with the plot). I got the impression that such things were probably put there in an attempt to "HOOK" you for a possibly sub-sequent volume, which I'm all for as long as there is a "clear" path as to how it pertains to the "current" volume where it appears. I do not like extraneous details that appear to not directly support the plot, as I learned in school, is a poor writing technique.

Specific examples of the problems: *** WARNING, THERE MAY BE SPOILERS IN THE FOLLOWING ***
1)The explanation as to why out of Sam, Jared and their father, that Sam was the only one to capable of impregnating the Vampire females. It said that the father's swimmers were not strong enough to get the job done, which I deduced meant a low sperm count (it would have been better to just state that and not leave such an important detail for the audience to have to guess what was meant). I suppose my deduction may have been wrong. But lets say that my deduction was correct, than it's not a surprise that Jared is infertile, but in that case it is a surprise that Sam has such "strong" swimmers. So then I assume that the mother's fertility was high which would better account for Sam's high fertility. Again, I had to "assume". Because fertility is a trait that is passed down from parent to child. Okay, genetic traits is a game of numbers, probability of a trait, I know, but under the conditions, the probability of Sam has strong swimmers, when his dad's were weak and his brothers dead, is low. Then there is the other thing, that if the dad had a low sperm count, how did he get "two" sons, let alone one with strong swimmers. Yes one's sperm count can be raised or lowered with diet, exercise, living habits, medicine, etc. But these are super-human Vamps - low sperm count, infertile - means sick - seriously? Okay so she did say that they were some sort of mutation of humans, so okay, I guess the ability of sickness or faulty genetics works. Let's say it does, she did not say the rules of science didn't apply, because other than Vamps, and the heightened senses, no daylight, drinking blood, shifting, plus having to eat food and the ability for any bodily function to not function properly, one assumes all other laws of science apply. As she said nothing else to contrary. Suffice it to say, her reason for Sam being the only one to impregnate women, was weak at best. Yes, I'm a bit of a science buff. So yeah, if there is faulty science, physical or natural sciences that is (biology, chemistry), I'm probably going to notice. And apparently, I do mind when authors don't get it right!

2)Then we learn Jared in a hypocrite. Which doesn't work for me because, was cast out of his birth coven, because he was gay and would not do his duty, or was it just because he didn't refused to do his duty. In the end it's not clear. Because if the father had a problem with his son being gay and cast him out for it, than why was Jared promised Camden in return for dragging his brother back. What did the father "think" Jared wanted him for, as a new best friend, a roommate. Yeah - no! Not buying that. And if the father was so desperate that he "needed" Sam to do his duty, why does he kick out the son that he "needs" so badly? Anything could have happened to him, with no supplies, no job, no home, no body to go to for help - he could have been attacked by members from another coven or nearly froze to death, anything. Why risk that happening to someone he needed so badly? Yeah, Sam disobeyed a direct order, when refusing to do his duty to the coven, but his dad was the Alpha. Therefore, the father was well withing his right to keep Sam in the coven and punish him in any other way that didn't kill him or render his incapable of impregnating females, other than banishment. Yeah all of thing together don't make sense, makes him sound like a stupid alpha. And maybe that is where she was going with that, but she said the dad (and Jared) were crazy not stupid. There really is a difference! You can be one and not the others. Example: Sociopaths, and psychopaths - often of high intellect doing horrible things yes, because they ARE crazy, but going about doing such things in a rather intelligent manner.

3) Then she was unclear or rather didn't put enough detail into if or how the father had died. I think Jared ripped his throat out, as the dad lunged at him, somehow the father still managed to fatally would Jared in the chest with his claws. So did Jared rip out the dads throat before or after the father nearly clawed him to death? Yeah, it's not clearly stated. And then she never says that the dad is dead, he is just not mentioned again doing anything.

4) The father dying was significant to the plot, but she doesn't give into enough details, but she mentions twice that there is "something" up with Ranz and Camden. Who cares? That had "nothing" to do with the plot. Camden had something to do with the plot yes, "how Camden and Ranz interacted with one another" did NOT! And then after mentioning there interactions, not once, but twice, she still doesn't tell you what it's about, but leave it to your imagination. Again, it didn't not push the current plot, she did not explain it, so why was it there?

5)After being stabbed nearly to death, Jared had the strength somehow, to still try to attack Sam. Okay, that's not the problem, so people, vampires, shifter, evil pixies, etc. are just that stubborn and hard to kill. But Sam and Kane take a little break from the action and have a little heart to heart time, and during this time, the rest of the characters present, Jared near death, but still trying to attack, Fallon, Ranz, and Camden are doing what, exactly. Are they just standing there waiting? Did Fallon order Jared to be moved, did they walk off? Yeah she just forgot about every who was left, when Jared was still trying to attack. Again, I assume that he what - finally passed out before getting to Sam, died, crawled off someone else, other members of his coven, helped him away? The chapter just ends and doesn't say. Then in the next chapter, which is some time later, she says what Fallon allowed to happen to Jared. Yeah, a delay of pertinent details is not always a good thing.

6)And at the very end Camden tells Fallon about the abuse that he suffered at Jared's hands, but not his BFF, Sam. Sam felt put out by that fact and so did I! Huh! He'd just met Fallon, he'd known Jared for years. And then that brought up the question, why had Camden, never mentioned to Sam, before the showdown, that Jared had been raping him? So were they are weren't they best friends? As far as I could tell, he didn't "have to" tell Fallon, he just chose to, but not Sam, his BFF. Oh well. Not the first thing, that didn't make much sense, considering the story thus far.

Yeah, I found the end, that annoying, "because" the rest had been so good. When something is really good, than I get to a part that is rather, bad is contrast, it makes the story worse to me than it would have is if had just been consistently average. Because if the story started out good and continue on as so, I expect the author to stick the landing. She didn't, at the end she "wobbled than fell". More than once I have been put off a book, because the author started out ok or better, but couldn't stick the landing (didn't end the book well). In such cases, upon further analysis, I will look over than, if the rest of the story was good enough, and the wasn't too bad - just a wobble, maybe - but if the author wobbles and falls or just falls as far as the quality at the end, than, yep, the experience is ruined.

Still I gave it three stars, because most of it was good, despite the problems that I had with end. And I think I also gave it three stars, out of some customer or fan loyalty for Glenn. I have read many other things from her that I thought was solid from beginning to end and liked quite a bit.

Loved It!! A must read!

I loved this book from begining to the end Kane a rough and tough bar owner meets Samuel a gentle giant trying to escape his crazy father and even crazier brother did I mention Samuel's a vampire and Kane's a human. There romance happens so fast but it's not without it's twist and turns in it with samuel finding out that kane's his mate to him leaving kane after finding this all out leaving kane confused and feeling used. Then we have Fallon a vampire leader whose also a biker with bikers for his coven threatening samuel and exposing what he is to a shocked kane also exposing the fact that he's samuel's mate! What a page turner I could not put it down it was a nail biter but it also had it's fuuny moments with samuels friend camden. I would defintely recommend this book as a must read and I can't wait to see if there's more books added to this one. Great Job Mrs Glenn!

    I won an ARC of Full Circle directly from the author. First let me say I've been hooked on this series since the beginning. That being said Full Circle was my favorite. I loved being able to see how Hannah and Garrett grew as a couple once they were together full time. It was also great being able to see how they dealt with less than ideal situations (wasn't just a oh everything is perfect now story line). I read this book in one night then went back and reread the entire series together. Would highly recommend this book and the entire series! Can't wait to see Jared grovel this fall!

    Author Laramie Briscoe wraps up the Rockin’ Country saga of Reaper (Garrett) and Harmony (Hannah) in Full Circle. We’ve seen these two characters meet, have a whirlwind courtship, fall in love, marry, and what comes after marriage? Yes, life is really changing for these two and with is comes fears, tears, and a whole lot of love.

    I have really loved watching these two not only grow up as individuals but watching their relationship mature as these books have gone along. It hasn’t been easy, their careers and their pasts put them in the public eye and as much as they try to control the media machine sometimes they just can’t. I do love that their communication skills have gotten better as time has gone on, that the love between them has grown, and their trust in each other is absolute.

    Touring is always interesting for a band and when Hannah accompanies Black Friday on their tour while taking time off from her own career she gets to know Garrett’s band mates a whole lot better. I love how she made time to do things with each of them and how they were there to protect her and keep her safe along with Garrett. I love how accepting they were of her into their group and how she made sure to include them especially in a decision that would affect them all.

    We were treated to glimpses of the struggle Shel has in her relationship with Jared and a teeny bit into Stacey’s (Garrett’s sister) relationship with his band mate Brad and thankfully we’ll see more in books to come. There were a few harrowing moments in this book; both took their toll on Garrett and Hannah but might also impact the future of the band.

    I really enjoyed the intimate scenes between Garrett and Hannah as it shows how comfortable they’ve become with one another, how much they trust each other and more than that that their love is stronger than ever.

    While this is the “last chapter” in Garrett and Hannah’s story, I’m sure we’ll see snippets of them in the books to come and that makes me happy as I can’t wait to see how they deal with recording, touring, and their new bundle of joy!

    Rocking and rolling with a new life...romantic and sweet

    I was lucky enough to receive a free copy of this book before release day to review.
    This entry in the Harmony/Reaper saga starts with a bonus prologue that takes place as they spend their first Christmas together as a married couple. It was sweet and as they exchanged their gifts, it gave us just more of a glimpse into their rock/country marriage and just how devoted they really are to each other.
    This book is primarily about their desire to start a family and being on the road together, learning more and more about how each other "works" and cementing their relationship before they take the plunge at parenthood. Also along for this ride we get more about Shell and Jared and their rocky road to happiness which will be severely tested as Jared flip flops from being in love with Shell to letting outside forces put a huge wedge between them and making for a dangerous outcome.
    The road to being a family won't be easy for Harmony either, as she deals with some heavy health issues that cause the press to go crazy and wonder if she has relapsed. It is a touch and go situation for these two young lovers as real life gets in the way of the fantasy of being on tour and starting a family at the same time, but you just know if anyone can overcome the obstacles..it is these two.
    This was a very different series for Laramie Briscoe and nothing like her biker books (which I am a huge fan of) although she does try to add more spice into Harmony and Reaper's sex life by introducing some new "play" that they have not done before but that might be more fitting for the rockstar lifestyle that Reaper is used to. It was romantic and tender enough to appeal to readers of "light" romance novels but with a little bit of an edge to appeal to those who like a grittier story.
    Coming up next will be Shell and Jared's book because their story ends with a bit of a shock and is left hanging. Stay tuned!

    Another winner from Charlie Russel

    Charlie Russel and Sharon Crawford have been putting out the gold standard in Small Business Server books since the first version of SBS shipped in the late 1990's. This latest effort is as comprehensive and accurate as their previous SBS titles, including not only direct information about installing and operating SBS, but also topics such as planning, security, migration, Hyper-V, data protection, and many others.

    This book will save many SBS users from having to buy other books for related functions. For example, there are chapters on subjects like Group Policy, customizing SharePoint, and adding a Terminal Server. The authors' real world, hands-on experience in planning, implementing, and managing Small Business Server networks is clear in every chapter. Not limited to just the Small Business Server itself, this book gives the knowledge needed to manage every part of the small business's back office infrastructure.

    This book is a valuable reference for anyone deploying Small Business Server Standard 2011, with or without the Premium Add-On, which is also covered in depth. I wouldn't be without it.

    Running SBS 2011 at my church

    I'm not a Windows Admin, but I am a "techie" kind of guy. More on the programming side though. But I'm responsible for IT at my church and recently set up SBS 2011 and created a true domain network. Since I've only experienced networking on the user side, I bought this and the pocket guide (probably overkill to get both) to have handy. I was able to find most everything I wanted. Its not quite written for someone at my level (probably intended for someone with more networking experience than me) but I am definitely glad I have it. With it and some internet searches I've been able to figure out everything I wanted to do. And I don't see any other book on the subject that would be the lower knowledge level that I am.

    One example where this really helped: Setting up a group policy for network shares. I was able to see how to create a group policy to map network drives. So I've now got a "Staff" network drive as well as given the 5 employees their own personal network drive for storage and back up.

    Very Basic Coverage of Windows SBS 2011

    The book did not help me with all Windows SBS Server 2011 set up issues and problems, but it did help me with some. Setting up RAID in Windows SBS 2011 is very poorly covered, it does not explain how to set up different type of users and computers, how to make make and install master image on work stations etc. etc. And yet other simple issues are belabored too much.

    Even though I have online Safari account, I could not get online access code to work. And if you are busy during the day on East Coast, calling their toll free number is very difficult because of their very limited Pacific time hours. In the book that I got, the two chapters are identical: connecting printers and computers to network - they both talk about connecting computers.

    And DO NOT BUY THE KINDLE VERSION! The screen shot pictures are barely decipherable in the hard copy but they cannot be seen at all in the Kindle version. Did the authors ever bother to read their Kindle version before putting it up for sale?

    Unfortunately, as of March 2012, there are very few books available on Windows SBS 2011, so you really have very limited choices.

    This book is just terrible

    I wish I had heeded the warnings of the other reviewer that panned this book, but I found a used copy from an Amazon vendor at a really low price and figured "what the heck." Well, no price is low enough for this volume. Even free it wouldn't be worth the postage.

    Fortunately you don't have to read for long to discover that this book is a waste of time. The second chapter, tantalizingly titled "Intruder Alert: Outdoor Lighting" is 5 pages long. In those 5 pages it basically says "Go to a home supply store; buy an outdoor light with motion sensor; install it." It is impressive that the author was able to drag that out to 5 pages! What did I expect of a chapter entitled "Intruder Alert" in a book named "25 Home Automation Projects for the Evil Genius"? I dunno - how about building a system involving multiple lights and multiple sensors that communicate through some automated system. Or maybe a system that uses high-power lights to blind and disorient an intruder. Or at least something that requires a soldering iron!

    If you make it past chapter 2, Chapter 4 tells you how to install a thermostat. Let me save you the trouble of reading it. It says "Go to a home supply store; buy a modern setback thermometer with whatever features you would like that is compatible with your home; Remove your old thermostat; install the new one." Chapter 5, excitingly named "Speak Up! Installing Voice Controls" spends 3 of its 6 pages showing you how to run the installation setup app for the voice control program on your PC. I'm not talking about some arcane ritual, it literally shows you screen shots of the freaking setup wizard. Give me a break! If you aren't able to install an application on your PC, you are not ready for home automation.

    I am amazed that this book was ever published. I am amazed that it is still in print. I have never read any other Evil Genius books, and after this one I don't intend to.

    Save yourself from wasting money and time on this book! The other reviews are accurate; this book is really quite useless for anybody capable of reading instructions that come with most hardware. And if you're not comfortable reading instructions, why would you buy this book?

    A disappointment from cover to cover for an evil genius.

    To start this review I will quote an excerpt from the front cover:

    "Every project includes a list of materials, sources for parts, schematics, and clear instructions. Build your own home automation system that includes lighting, security, surveillance and monitors, climate control, entertainment, and more"

    Anyone who is familiar with the "Evil Genius" series of books knows that they are famous for DIY projects created by hacking existing items for new purposes. This book is not one of them. There should be a disclaimer on the front of this book that says "REQUIRES WINDOWS XP FOR MOST PROJECTS AND A LOCAL HOME IMPROVEMENT STORE". Nothing about this book is spectacular. In fact Ms. Ledford has simply taken the instructions out of the boxes of products bought from Lowes or Home Depot, and compiled them into a 25 chapter book. You don't build ANYTHING. Everything is purchased ready to use right out of the box. Please reread the excerpt above now. Why the need to mentions materials, parts, or schematics. Why does it say "build your own". If there had been anything at all in this book that came close to the history of the "evil genius" series OR if the book contained anything that resembles what is spelled out on the front and back covers, then I would have given it more than 1 star. As far as this book is concerned, all you need to do is go to your local home improvement warehouse and buy whatever home automation item you want. Then bring it home and follow the instructions supplied with the purchased item. I also challenge anyone to find the words "windows" or "software" on the covers of this book. Has Ms. Ledford not considered that not everyone uses a MS product? TAB Electronics has had really great books come from their presses, but their editors drop the ball on this one. It needs "evil genius" removed from it's cover. It should actually have the title "25 Ready To Use Home Automation Products". If you are a fan of the previously released "evil genius" books then stay away from this one. If you want help installing something you purchased and a little bit of theory behind how it works, then by all means this is the book for you (you just better have a MS enabled computer handy).
